A tale of two Boston Neighborhoods - Bonding and Linking Capital in Boston's Real Estate Development
-
This is a research project I did for a class called "Resilient cities", where we had to explore an aspect of community resilience. It explores the possible correlation between a community's social capital, mainly bonding and linking, and the rate and magnitude of large real estate development.

The task for this project was to research three cases where a policy or technology was implemented to improve a city's sustainability. I looked into how three urban rivers, the Cheonggyecheon river, in Seoul, South Korea, the Charles River in Massachusetts, USA, and the Torres river, in San Jose, Costa Rica, are being revitalized and what strategies are working best.

I developed this Strategy Memo for my "Strategizing Public Policy" class. In it, I explore a possible strategy the government of Costa Rica could use to move along with old public transportation policies that could bring many benefits to the country, such as a reduction in traffic and CO2 emissions and the revitalization of Downtown San Jose.

Op-Ed -Not everything that gleams is green
-
This Op-Ed was part of the semester-long project to develop the previous strategy memo. At the time of the class, the Costa Rican government had published their Decarbonization Plan, and one of their first policies was heavily opposed by the population, to the point the implementation was canceled. I share my opinions on how my strategy proposal could fit within the Decarbonization Plan framework.
